How would you describe yourself?
I am fun, energetic and outgoing! I am adventurous and I love the outdoors (I am a geologist by day!)
How long have you been involved in your business?
Since February 2017
What is your why?
I started LuLaRoe because I was a single mom struggling to make ends meet. It was very important to me that I keep my kids in the same house and school and not uproot them. I had looked for a part-time job, but with my job as a geologist, I just couldn’t find anything that I could work around my schedule. I had heard about LuLaRoe, but just didn’t think it was for me. After months of trying to find something else and being on the brink of having to move out of the house we were renting, I finally decided to give LuLaRoe a try and it was one of the best decisions I have made!
Tell us a little about your family.
I am the proud mother of 3 boys (22, 19 and 17) My 22-year-old is studying to become a welder, the 19-year-old is currently serving a 2-year mission for our church and my 17-year-old is a senior in high school. It’s hard to believe they are getting so old! After 8 years as a single mom, I was recently remarried and am working on getting my new husband to help out with the business.
How do you prioritize family and your business?
Balancing family, a demanding full-time job and my business can be challenging. I make sure that I have time to spend with my family each day and I don’t work on Sunday’s. Any free time I have is usually spent focused on LuLaRoe and I use breaks during the day to address emails and messages from customers as well as posting to social media.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself sunbathing on the deck of the cruise ship with all the other LuLaRoe retailers that have cruise qualified! I see myself being debt free and saving to buy my own home.
What keeps you motivated?
The dream of being debt free!! I want to get the credit cards and student loans I accrued during my years as a single mom paid off so I can have more to offer my family. I want to be able to buy a home and I want my children to see that hard work pays off.
Biggest life lesson learned?
Never give up…even when it seems like there is no way out, there is always a way. It may not be an easy road, but with hard work and determination, anyone can accomplish great things.
Biggest lesson you’ve learned in business?
The more you give the more you get.
What is your secret to success?
I go above and beyond to help my customers.
All entrepreneurs encounter bad days. How do you handle yours?
Breathe deep and focus on the positive.
What was your sweetest success story?
Overcoming cancer, divorce and the loss of a child (all in the same year) to return to school, graduate with honors and be an example to my children that even through the most extreme hardships we can succeed.
How do you relax?
I like to go to the movies, watch tv, read and take my dog for walks.
What are your most popular products?
Dresses and leggings.
What are your favorite business tools? What business apps, products and tools do you use daily to run your business/life efficiently? What could you not function without?
I use Facebook every day and I try to post to Instagram daily.
Any advice you have for other women who want to start their own business?
Do your research and only go into business doing something that you will love. If you don’t love a product, you won’t be able to sell it effectively.
For direct sellers: Please finish this sentence: If it wasn’t for my direct sales business, I wouldn’t have been able to…
keep a roof over my head and keep my son in the same high school for his senior year.
