How would you describe yourself?
I’m pretty energetic and always on the go! I love meeting new people and seeing different places.
How long have you been involved in your business?
What is your why?
To give my family a little more financial freedom and show my daughter what hard work is all about.
Tell us a little about your family.
My husband Todd and I have been married since Halloween 2014 and we have a one-year-old daughter named Stella. We moved to SoCal from NJ back in 2015 and have been having a blast!
How do you prioritize family and your business?
This is something I’m always working on. In 2017 I overbooked myself constantly and I’m working to keep that to a minimum in 2018. Keeping an up to date calendar has helped me a ton!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Somewhere a little closer to family so my daughter can have a chance to know them.
What keeps you motivated?
My husband and my daughter primarily, but failure also keeps me motivated. While failure certainly stinks, having failed shows me why I don’t want to have repeat failures.
Biggest life lesson learned?
Keep a schedule!
Biggest lesson you’ve learned in business?
Keeping on top of paperwork – it’s a serious challenge and one you should consider getting help with.
What is your secret to success?
Being open and honest with my customers.
All entrepreneurs encounter bad days. How do you handle yours?
I take a deep breath and remember the good days I’ve had.
What was your sweetest success story?
Becoming the exclusive retailer for a group that has recurring events every 3-4 months. They are my favorite event!
How do you relax?
I have recently returned to working out regularly, which helps me focus and forget the stress. Of course, I also love being a couch potato and watching TV with my husband!
What are your most popular products?
Leggings are probably the most popular in my shop. My favorites have to be the Amelia and Carly dresses, as well as the Shirley kimono!
What are your favorite business tools? What business apps, products and tools do you use daily to run your business/life efficiently? What could you not function without?
Sonlet (was Shop the Roe) helps me with inventory, and I’m learning how to use it more efficiently. I also love Loyal Shops – it gives me a virtual punchcard for everyone who registers so I can keep track of rewards!
Any advice you have for other women who want to start their own business?
1. It’s going to be hard.
2. You’re probably going to struggle a bit and may not be as successful as you imagined right from the start.
3. There’s always going to be negativity, and the rumor mill will always keep turning. While I don’t suggest ignoring all negativity and rumors, it’s not healthy to dwell on these things.
4. If you’re not having at least a little fun doing your own business, it’s not worth it.
5. Find someone who will support you in your endeavor, even if it’s just someone who will let you vent.
For direct sellers: Please finish this sentence: If it wasn’t for my direct sales business, I wouldn’t have been able to:
truly understand my weaknesses and how to improve them.
